Established by the late David Johns in June 1965, DJ Motors is a family run business.

In October 1969 the business became a Chrysler Dealer and in March 1973 after purchasing the business of Metro Motors Pty Ltd, the other Chrysler Dealer in Hobart, Michael Johns became the major Shareholder and Dealer Principal.

Mitsubishi Motors purchased Chrysler Australia in 1981 and DJ Motors Pty Ltd has been the Hobart dealer for Mitsubishi cars and light commercials, and Mitsubishi parts distributor for Tasmania since then.

In 1993 Mazda joined the DJ Group and 1996 saw the addition of Nissan. In 1997 Kia also became part of the Group.

In May 2003 DJ’s opened their brand new Dealership at 275 Main Road Glenorchy which includes an extensive used car facility, a new car showroom for Kia and a modern vehicle service facility offering service for each of our DJ new car brands and general service and maintenance for all vehicles.

Our most recent addition has been the new DJ Nissan Dealership at 235 Argyle Street, which opened in February 2006 and features state-of-the-art sales & service facilities.

DJ Motors invests heavily in the manufacturer apprentice training programs to produce quality technicians to work on your vehicle. We are proud of their achievements which include: the winners of Mazda Apprentice of the Year award for 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007 along with the winner of the Automotive Category in the Tasmanian Apprentice of the Year awards in 2000 and Finalist in 2007. These high achievers have come through the DJ Motors apprenticeship training program and many are still employed by the Company today. DJ Motors was also announced as the 2007 Employer of the Year at the TASTA Training Awards.

DJ Motors is an industry leader, having attained a numerous awards over the years. In recent years these include Capital Finance Dealer of the Year 2007, Martec Dealer of the Year 2006 & 2007, Nissan Platinum Dealer 2006-07 and Mitsubishi Triple Diamond Award for 2007.

All of our achievements together with well trained sales, service, parts and finance staff means that we can provide the experience you need to make buying the right vehicle a pleasure.

Michael Johns is involved in a number of National and State management comparison groups and industry representative bodies within the automobile industry, and is the current Chairman of the Mitsubishi Motors Australia Dealer Council.

He has a keen interest in the Tasmanian economy and is a fellow of the Institute of Company Directors. He has involved the Company in substantial community support programs over the years and the Company's profile has benefited.

In November 1999 Michael Johns was appointed Honorary Consul for Great Britain in Tasmania. This is a relatively busy Consular support office with in excess of 1500 enquiries serviced each year.

Michael Johns is a strong community supporter and very proud of DJ Motors’ partnership with the UTAS Scholarship program which has been running over a number of years. Currently DJ Motors provides seven active scholarships supporting young Tasmanians in Science, Economics and Music. In addition to this the DJ Motors Sponsorship Program provides a substantial funding every year to assist organisations, community groups and individuals in the areas of Health, Sport and Education.

Though our sponsorship program we seek to achieve a balance between community, environmental, sporting, educational and arts/cultural events and activities.

We view sponsorship as support for an organisation, team, event or program in return for the right to use that organisation, team, event or program to promote our name, image, products and services. Sponsorship is not a donation (in cash or kind) for which little or no commercial return is expected.
