The History of DJ Motors
History
Establised by the late David Johns in June 1965 as, DJ Motors is a family run business.
DJ Motors became a Chrysler Dealer in 1969 in Hobart. Following the purchase of the other Chrysler Dealer in Hobart (Metro Motors Pty Ltd) in 1973, DJ Motors became the sole Chrysler dealer for the Hobart region. It was at this time that Michael Johns, the son of the founder of the business, became the major shareholder and Dealer Principal - a position he still holds today.

DJ Motors is renowned in the Industry for its excellence in customer service and its attention to detail in all of its operations. Adherence to the Company's Total Quality Management System is a core requirement of all staff at all times and this makes DJ Motors a place of learning for many within the Industry.

Employment
DJ Motors employs up to 100 local Tasmanians across a range of employment disciplines including, Sales, Service , Marketing, Human Resources, Accounting , Administration and Vehicle Preparation including accessory fitment and detailing. As well as that we use countless number of local suppliers and service providers. As such, DJ's is a significant contributor to the Hobart/ Tasmanian business environment and the local economy.
Staff Training and Development
DJ Motors' investment in training is typified by its commitment to Apprentice Training programs. DJ's is proud of its achievements which include:
· the winners of Mazda Apprentice of the Year award for 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007
· Winner of the Automotive Category in the Tasmanian Apprentice of the Year awards in 2000 and Finalist in 2007.
· DJ Motors was also announced as the 2007 Employer of the Year at the TASTA Training Awards.
Sponsorships
DJ's is a strong community supporter and very proud of our partnership with the UTAS Scholarship program which has been running over a number of years. Currently DJ Motors provides seven active scholarships supporting young Tasmanians in Science, Economics and Music.
In addition to this, the DJ Motors Sponsorship Program provides substantial funding every year to assist organisations, community groups and individuals in the areas of Health, Sport and Education.
ABOUT THE OWNERS
Michael Johns
Michael has lived and worked in Hobart for most of his life. He joined the business in 1967 and became the sole owner/ operator in 1973.
Michael's contribution the growth and development of the Automotive Industry is renowned across Australia. As well as operating his own extensive business, Michael has been, and continues to be involved with industry representative bodies in addition to being a Dealer representative on several of the Manufacturers National Dealer Council bodies.
He has a keen interest in the Tasmanian economy and is a fellow of the Institute of Company Directors.
In November 1999 Michael Johns was appointed Honorary Consul for Great Britain in Tasmania. This is a relatively busy Consular support office with in excess of 1500 enquiries serviced each year.
Michael has a commitment to service excellence and customer care that continues well after you have bought your new car. He believes that you should be able to protect your investment with quality after sales care in both service and parts.
Tony Breugem
Tony has recently joined Michael as an equity partner in the business. Tony and his family have relocated from Adelaide.
Tony has extensive experience in the Automobile Industry having worked for Mitsubishi Motors Australia Ltd for 20 years. Tony was a member of Mitsubishi Motors Australian Board of Directors since 2001 and has held National responsibilities for Human Resources, Supply Chain Management and Sales and Marketing. Tony has extensive corporate experience through his role at Mitsubishi and reporting into the international shareholders - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation.
Tony's desire to participate directly in the retail sector and experience the customer connection first hand has led Tony to this exciting new challenge and opportunity in his career.
Tony shares Michael's passion for excellence, particularly in customer service, and is committed to continuing and enhancing DJ Motors already proud tradition.
